Transcription: P.B. Johnson. Mr. Johnson's record: Alderman of Benson 8 years, Director Eastern Carolina Chamber of Commerce 4 years, Secretary-Treasurer Kiwanis Club 4 years. He was Vice President of the Citizens Bank and Trust Co. Benson for several years. Is an active cotton buyer. Started in the mercantile business as P.B. Johnson and for thirty years has sold hardware, fertilizer, and building supplies. Superintendent of Benson Presbyterian Sunday School for eight years. His hobby is strictly business. Preston B. Johnson, merchant, Benson, N.C., was born in Johnson County, March 3, 1876. Member of Benson Knights of Pythias; director Benson Kiwanis Club, and served as secretary for several years; elder in Benson Presbyterian Church; superintendent of Benson Presbyterian Sunday School for eight years; directy Eastern Carolina Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Johnson believes in sticking to business. He has been in the mercantile business in Benson in his own name since 1899. He does a general supply business, including hardware, fertilizer, building material, etc. He is an active cotton buyer. He served as director of Citizens Bank & Trust Company, 1920 to 1928; served as vice president of same bank for several years; as director Benson Building and Loan Association from its organization until 1926; as alderman of Benson for eight years; as a member of the County Board of Education for eight years. Mr. Johnson married Miss Hattie Riles of Benson, December 23, 1903. Mr. Johnson has eight children, three of whom now living: Wade, attended University of North Carolina; Edwin, attending University of North Carolina Law School now; P.B., Jr., at the University, 1929. Mr. Johnson received his education at Turlington Institute and University of North Carolina.
