This photo shows Mayor John Henry Moss and Charles F. Mauney in Washington in March 1974. They are visiting Washington to invite Vice President Gerald Ford to be the guest speaker on October 5th. The meeting was arranged by Representative James E. Broyhill. The Vice President accepted in July but had to cancel all commitments in August when he became President of the United States. The Centennial Commission reissued the invitation to him as President in late August.
