William Outis Allison

Born March 30, 1849— Died December 18, 1924

William Outis Allison, president of The Druggists Circular, Inc., died at his apartment, 115 West Six- teenth street, this city, on the morning of December 18, at 3:10 o'clock, of multiple thrombosis, following an at- tack of pneumonia. He was in his ceventy-sixth year, hav- ing been born in Bergen County, New Jersey, March 30, 1849: He is survived by three chiliren, Mrs. P. Rod- erick MacLean, Mrs. Fran- ces C. Allison, and John Blauvelt Allison, and by five grandchildren. His first wife and the mother of his chil- dren was Miss Caroline L. Hovey, of Syracuse, who was the niece of the wife, as well as the adopted daughter, of the Hon. George F. Com- stock, at one time attorney- general of the United States, and chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals. They were married October 22, 1884, and made their home on the Palisades at a point overlooking the present Dyck- man Street ferry and now a part of the grounds of an orphan asylum. She died March 31, 1896. His second wife was Mrs. Caroline Com- stock, who ‘survives.

‘Mr. Allison was the son of William Henry Allison and his wife Catherine Jordan Allison. On his father’s side he was descended from John Allison who, in 1644, was one of the founders of the town of Hemp- stead, Long Island. John’s father was Lawrence, the first member of the family known in America, who was one of the early settlers in the New Haven colony. John Allison, Jr. moved from Hempstead and bought largely of land in what is now Rock- land County, New York. His son, Joseph, added materially to the real

estate of the family. One of Jo- seph’s grandsons, Hendrick, settled on the Hudson River to the south of the other Allisons, and here his son, Will- jam Henry, was born in 1820. Will- jam Henry married the daughter of David and Elizabeth (Blauvelt) Jor- dan and had three sons and a daugh-
