Description

Jackie M. Evans, chief operator at Rocky Mount's Sunset Avenue water treatment plant, remembers the flood during Hurricane Floyd. As the water rose at the Sunset plant, he and the other employees working at the time moved computers and files up to the second floor, then they had to stay up there until they were rescued by a boat. Evans remembers everything around him looked like a lake. When he first saw the damage at the Sunset plant, he didn't know if it would be possible to repair the plant. During floods, water with worse quality tends to come into treatment plants, so they had to get the plant back up and running. Evans talks about how everyone worked together to do what had to be done for the city.
