THIS HOG KILLING WAS ON THE 'JOHN HARDY BAREFOOT' FARM IN MEADOW TOWNSHIP. IT TOOK PLACE AROUND THE TURN OF THE 20th CENTURY. In the foreground is a barrel, tilted and partially buried where hogs were immersed in scalding water to remove their hair after they had been killed. Like 'corn shucking', 'hog killings' were a neighborhood event that involved work, necessities for the family and socializing.
