North Carolina's singing cowboy, Fred Kirby, appears with his horse Calico at the auditorium for the annual union Christmas party. Since the large stage accommodated even full court basketball games, the auditorium provided an ideal venue for many large community events such as fiddlers' conventions, plays, pageants, graduation exercises, and musicals.
