Description

Black men hired by the mill opened bales of cotton or boxed and loaded finished cloth. As part of the mill's outside crew, some removed garbage and cleaned outdoor toilets. Black women usually served as laundresses if they worked outside the home. (Courtesy of Textile Heritage Center at Cooleemee.)
