Description

By 1901, production at the cotton mill commenced in the main departments of opening, carding, spinning, and weaving. The three main floors each contained 56,000 square feet of space. A water turbine turning large wheels transferred power to shafts, belts, and machines until the installation of new models with electric motors in the 1930s. The mill produced and dyed a large variety of fabrics. (Courtesy of Textile Heritage Center at Cooleemee.)
