Description

Union Academy near Farmington, built by the local Baptist and Methodist churches, conducted classes from 1852 to 1883 under the leadership of S.O. Tatum and James H. Foote. Mrs. W.C. Martin, a former student, said, "discipline consisted of demerits, doing extra work, or possibly the most dreaded of all was standing on the platform by the teacher."
