North Carolina-issued Confederate bill for fifty cents. Obverse: central image of a clipper ship at sea. Text written around image reads, "THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA/WILL PAY TO/BEARER AT/the Treasury on or before January 1st 1866/FIFTY CENTS." Signed by Thos. Lachorn [sp?]. Image box on right side of obverse shows decorative floral bouquet, on top of which is written, "BY AUTHORITY/of LAW."
