North Carolina-issued Confederate currency. Three dollars, No. 1408. Obverse text reads, in part "THE STATE of NORTH CAROLINA/Will pay THREE DOLLARS to Bearer/Redeemable at the TREASURY on or before the/FIRST DAY OF JANUARY 1866." Cartouche at center shows classical scene: two woman, one standing and one seated, at the foot of a fluted column; cornucopia beside the seated figure. Signed by C. D. Dewey. "THREE" written vertical along both sides of the bill. Reverse is blank.
