Davie County native Flossie Martin earned a bachelors degree from Salem College in 1910 and a masters degree in science from UNC-Chapel Hill. She taught science in the public school system until her retirement at age 70, at which point she volunteered at the public library, building a collection of local history and genealogical materials.
