Oct 17 1861 General Hill Sir Enclosed please find copy of a letter recd today - From 8 oclock last evg until day break this morning the men at "Fort Hill" hear a cannonading at short intervals in the direction of Fort Macon. Lieut. Col. Fouele? took his Battalion of four companies to Fort Hill today & I have ordered ? this ev. I found there, a company of ? Regt to make room for the Battalion & to keep the Regt. together.
