Description

James Harrison Cain was a veteran of the Confederate Navy. He served on the ram ""Albemarle,"" an iron-plated vessel used to sink Union ships by ramming them. Cain wrote an account of the destruction of the Albemarle by torpedo on the night of October 27, 1864. All crew members escaped though they lost everything but what they were wearing.
