Born in Old Trap in 1891, Jesse Forbes Pugh wrote "Three Hundred Years Along the Pasquotank: A Biograhical History of Camden County, North Carolina," published in 1957, which still stands as the most comprehensive history of Camden County ever to exist. Pugh retired as superintedent of Camden County Schools and held a lifetime membership in the American Education Association. He was a member and Sunday school teacher at Wesley United Methodist Church at Old Trap and also a member of the Hall Lodge 53 AF & AM. Pugh did his graduate studies at the University of North Carolina and at Columbia University in New York City. He was remembered as a caring teacher and served the North Carolina public school system for 33 years. Pugh passed away on March 22, 1976, at the age of 84. Photo courtesy of Camden County Museum.
