Description

The Old Trap Wharf, owned by James Edward Burgess and later by his son Jim Burgess, was the lifeline of the people of Old Trap. All transportation of people and goods was by way of the Pasquotank River, which necessitated a long pier to cross shallow water to the channel. In this image, the wharf is paralyzed by an unusual winter freeze. Photo courtesy of Joyce Mitchell Cuthrell.
