Description

Hiram Powers, a renowned American sculptor, moved his family to Italy in the 1800s. Nannie Powers (right back, behind her father) and Ellen Powers (seated to the left of her father in the photograph) moved to Mocksville in 1914 and lived in the Grant Daniel house, the Meroney house and finally the old Brown house. They erected a building in the back yard of the Brown house for their cats, with a runway to the second story of the house for the cats' convenience. Nannie Powers lies buried in Joppa Cemetery.
