Description

Shell Castle, also called the Harris Plantation, was a two-story transitional Federal/Greek Revival house with six bays, tall sash windows protected by louvered shutters, double-leaf four-panel front doors framed by sidelights and transome, and a shed-roof porch. The house has been destroyed. More information about this photograph can be found on page 239-240 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
