Description

The residence, a result of two different periods of construction, is a one-and-a-quarter-story gable-front five bay frame house with coursed rubblestone chimney and a sweeping hip-roof porch supported by six simple chamfered posts. The first portion of the house was a board-and-batten gable-roof cottage that was built between 1840 and 1860, while the second portion (which encompassed the first) was built in 1937. More information about this photograph can be found on page 284 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
