Description
A former plantation, the original residence is a two-story Georgian house with plain recessed panel wainscoting, simple fireplace with triple recessed panel, and a flat molded chair rail. The original house now serves as an ell to the Federal/Greek Revival main wing that was built between 1830 and 1840. The newer Federal/Greek Revival wing is a two-story five-bay structure with nine-over-nine sash windows, a flat-roof portico, a deep boxed cornice on prominent modillions, and brick Flemish-bond end chimneys. The interior of the house includes a two-run stair in the broad hall with a transverse landing embellished with a Doric frieze as well as a library and parlor with elaborate tripartite Federal mantels, plaster walls, and Greek Revival woodwork.
