Description

The residence is a two-and-a-half-story Federal house with a steeply pitched gable roof, porch with tapered posts and simple balustrade, large brick chimneys, boxed cornice and patternboard, six-panel doors, and six-over-six sash windows with plain mitered surrounds. The photograph shows the south side of the house. The detached kitchen is one and a half stories tall and includes a massive brick chimney laid in Flemish bond, an oversized fireplace, batten doors and shutters with iron strap hinges, and interior sheathing of wide beaded boards. More information about these photographs can be found on page 304-305 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
