Description

The residence, which apparently envelops a 1789 V-notch log dwelling, is a vernacular two-story three-bay L-plan Greek Revival farm house. It has a low pedimented gable roof, hall-parlor plan, brick end chimneys, one board-and-batten door, two-panel front door, flush sheathing on the south-facing facade, six-over-six sash windows, enclosed stair, simple mantel of built-up frieze and pilasters, and crude shed-roof porches across the main front and rear facades. The photograph displays the side view of the house. More information about this photograph can be found on page 309-310 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
