Description

The residence has constructed and undergone alterations over several years. The first stage, which occurred around 1850 to 1860, resulted in a log cabin. This portion was eventually incoporated into the ell of the second stage's dwelling. The second part of the house, built circa 1900, serves as the main block of the house. It is a two-story three-bay triple-A vernacular Gothic revival house. It features six-over-six sash windows, hip-roof front porch with turned posts and sawnwork brackets, gable-end brick chimneys, decorative shingle courses and pentagonal louvered ventilator on the central gable, heavy mantels, a single-pile central-hallway interior, an open string stair, and three log sections to the rear. More information about this photograph can be found on page 319-320 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
