Description

The building, built in the late 18th century/early 19th century, was a one-story gable-roof structure with a five bay facade, four-over-four sash windows, full-facade shed-roof porch, and two end chimneys. The oldest chimney had a broad rubblestone base surmounted by a square stack of patterned bricks that rose flush with the gable end. The second chimney was also made of stone with a brick stack but was cruder and built later. The tavern has been destroyed. More information about this photograph can be found on page 323-324 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
