Description

The original part of the residence is a two-room one-and-a-half-story log structure that is now the ell to the more recent house. This original part of the residence contains a simple post-and-lintel mantel and a very narrow straight-flight enclosed stair. The main block of the house is a two-story three-bay triple-A house that was constructed between 1890 and 1900. The residence features a shed-roof front porch with turned posts, and spindle brackets; front-gable embellished with ventilator, shingles, sawn and turned bargeboarding, and brackets; brick end chimney that now has a cement coating; central-hallway interior; open-string stair; and two molded and bracketed Victorian mantels. More information about this photograph can be found on page 331 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
