Description

Serving Black students for at least four decades in the earliest part of the 20th century, this school building is an important landmark for the Black community near Farrington. The brick building, built around 1930, has a rectangular structure set off by three recessed double-leaf entrances, entrances surmounted by a transom and framed by rows of tall nine-over-nine sash windows, and a main entrance marked by sidelights and protected by a portico. More information about this photograph can be found on page 335-336 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
