Description
Photographs show pictures of the house and of the newel. The residence, built circa 1860, is a two-story three-bay single-pile center-hall Greek Revival farm house. Its features include a full-length hip-roof front porch, exterior end brick chimneys, single-story rear shed extension, pedimented gable ends, wide plain frieze carried by pilastered cornerposts, six-over-six sash windows, flush sheathing on the porch-sheltered facade, central entrance framed by sidelights and transom, delicate arched brackets between the porch bays, transomed French doors flanking the entrance, symetrically molded architraves with cornerblock incised in a Maltese cross design, and a stair with a landing. More information about these photographs can be found on page 346-347 of the book The Architectural Heritage of Chatham County, North Carolina written by Rachel Osborn and Ruth Selden-Sturgill.
