This collection is a scrapbook of pictures that were taken by George Howard who was Superintendent of Edgecombe County schools from July 1916 through June 1918 and from January 1919 through July 1920. The scrapbook consists of photographs of different schools throughout the whole county. Schools include: Conetoe 1918; Cross Roads 1918; Speed 1918; Oakland 1918; Busyworkers 1918; Speights 1918; Battleboro; Nettles; Edgewood; Sparta; Crisp; Otters Creek; Old Mill; Macclesfield; St. Lewis; Pinetops 1917; Dixie High School 1918; Oakdale; Juvenile; Lancaster Abandoned 1919; Pleasant Hill. There are also photographs of different types of transportation that were used to get to school in the early 1900s, such as children walking to school or riding in wagons. Several photos are of school staff: County Board, Johnson, Brake Mayo; Supervisor, Miss Cobb; Home Dem. Agent, Miss McCargo.
