Description

Hodges served in the Fifth North Carolina Cavalry, Company H during the Civil War. After the war, he took degrees from Trinity College (now Duke University, 1869-1873) and Yale University (an A.B. degree in 1874). He established the first high school in Union County, NC (1875), taught Greek and Modern Languages at Trinity College (1879-1882), founded Augusta Academy (1886), and then Hodges Business College (1894). Hodges also served as superintendent of Davie County Schools for ten years. (Courtesy of Larry Cope.)
