[00:00:17.040] As we come to the closing days of the campaign, [00:00:20.000] I think all of the citizens of our state should be [00:00:22.560] on the alert for campaign literature [00:00:25.120] that is a distortion of fact, [00:00:27.640] that tells only a half truth. [00:00:29.800] And such literature may even include altered photographs [00:00:32.960] such as we have already found [00:00:35.440] here, particularly in the eastern part of the state. [00:00:38.960] As you can see, the photograph on your [00:00:41.560] left, the left hand corner and a [00:00:44.120] full picture on the right, which obviously [00:00:46.800] shows an altered photograph. [00:00:49.800] This kind of literature tends to mislead the public. [00:00:54.000] And I call upon my opponent, Jim Gardener, [00:00:57.200] to get a hold of his campaign [00:00:59.920] and raise his campaign out of the gutter [00:01:03.080] to the level in keeping with the dignity of the office [00:01:07.400] that he seeks to serve. The people of North Carolina [00:01:08.600] want a man in the governor's office who has [00:01:11.280] integrity, who is honest, who is [00:01:13.800] fair, and who is frank and open. [00:01:16.640] I do not believe that the people of this state [00:01:19.640] will accept someone as their governor who will [00:01:22.320] condone this type of literature being passed [00:01:25.160] out in his campaign.
