Description
This cemetery in now a grassy field and no longer has any visible stones. As late as 1933 there was one stone remaining leaning against a tree. It is believed that there are stones sunken beneath the present surface. Some of these stones are reported to be dated as far back as the Civil War. A small frame church once stood beside this cemetery, but it burned on Easter Monday, 1942. Silver Hill Cemetery is owned and maintained by United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. This church was formed in 1965 with the union of two older churches, West End Baptist Church, and First Institutional Baptist Church. It appears that West End Baptist Church owned Silver Hill Cemetery, and United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church now owns it because the two churches and their resources were merged to form the new church.
