The collection consists of a tax notebook with entries from 1927-1962, the bulk of which are in the 1930s. It appears to have been kept by one or more tax supervisors of Durham County. The notebook compiles yearly real estate and property valuations, budgetary information, and tax collections, many of which are itemized by race. Compiled tax data includes valuations and taxes of tobacco companies and mills as well as of Black and white homes and farms listed by township. Compiled county tax values for real and personal property are listed for 1915-1955. Also included are notes from 1991 pertaining to a departmental work session.
