A photograph of Swain Memorial Hall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which was built in 1885 to accommodate the larger commencement crowds that accompanied a growing student body. Swain Memorial Hall was designed by Philadelphia-based architect Samuel Sloan. Swain Memorial Hall was demolished in 1930 and replaced by the contemporary Memorial Hall.
