Kate Wheeler was from Greensboro, North Carolina
and attended Elon College from 1919-1922. According to the 1922 Phi
Psi Cli yearbook, her activities and achievements included the
following: member of the Psiphelian Literary Society, member of Beta
Omicron Beta, Class Poet (1921), Assistant Physical Culture Director
(1921), member of the Y.W.C.A. Cabinet (1921), Certificate in Piano
(1921), Pianist for Psiphelian Entertainment (1921), Delegate to the
Y.W.C.A., Conference at Guilford College (1921), Delegate to Blue
Ridge (1921-1922), President of the Y.W.C.A. (1922), member of the
Religious Activities’ Organization (1922), member of the Phi Psi Cli
Staff (1922), Diploma in Physical Culture (1922), Diploma in Piano
(1922), Chapel Monitor (1922), Marshal Lyceum Course (1922), and
Music Lovers Club. Her scrapbook includes photographs and
photographic prints of Elon’s campus buildings and scenes (including
the senior oak tree, the old well near Whitley Auditorium, West
Dormitory, tennis court, and snow on campus), students, and faculty;
correspondence; programs from events and groups such as the
Department of Music, the Music Lovers Club, the Department of
Expression and Voice, Baccalaureate Day, Commencement, Class Day
Exercises, Literary Society events, First Presbyterian Church of
Greensboro, First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem; newspaper
clippings; postcards; and telegrams. Also included is information
and photographs from The Blue Ridge Association for Summer Schools
and Training Conferences, a summer camp where she worked. Kate
Wheeler passed away on November 6, 1977.
