Lena Waller Morgan describes her life in Spring Hope, N.C. Lena was born August 20, 2012. She graduated from East Carolina at 15 and worked in a candy shop. She could not work as a teacher yet because you had to be 18 to be a teacher in NC. A school in Spring Hope called for an interview. She had 55 children in her first grade class with no teacher aids. She taught and created lessons by herself. She was paid ninety dollars a month the first year. The second year was reduced to sixty dollars a month because the banks were closed. Met her husband Monk Morgan during a beauty contest. Lena recalls where she was during Pearl Harbor and Hurricane Hazel. Wrote a book called "Laborers together a History First Baptist Church, Spring Hope, N.C. 1889-1989. One Hundred Years"
