Charles Frederick Bahnson, a Captain in the Confederate Army, moved from Salem to Farmington in 1865, where he practiced as an optometrist and jeweler. He served as Grand Lecturer of NC in the Masonic Lodge from 1908 to 1911 and authored the Masonic Manual used in NC.
