Verso: "Dam in Linville River at Crossnore built by Dr. E. H. Sloop to furnish electricity to the community. Power house at right. Woman in picture is Mrs. Sloop"; In the twenties, Dr. Eustace Sloop ordered a 2,300 pound "dynamo" for a site at the dam and sent the first electricity to the hill. Later, they would rewind the coils to produce alternating current.
