The monument was erected in 1910 by the Rockingham Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Addressed to Master William Butler c/o St. Lukes Hospital, Richmond, Va. Message reads: Hello William, Get well fast and when you come home come out here to see me. You will be well and strong then and we will have lots of fun. William Saunders. Postmarked July 12, 1917.
