Constructed in 1770 by William Patrick, Troublesome Iron Works was located in the Monroeton area of Rockingham County. In 1781 Revolutionary War General Nathaniel Greene used the site as a base for his troops both before and after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. George Washington visited here in 1791.
