Charles "Ches" McCartney wandered throughout the country in a wagon pulled by a team of nine goats for close to 40 years (1930-1968). Wearing goatskin clothes, drinking goat's milk, and rarely bathing, the Goat Man preached and told tall tales wherever he went. Muggs Smith recalls seeing the Goat Man in Mocksville during the 1950s.
