Description

On April 11, 1865 General George Stoneman's army moved through Mocksville on the way to Salisbury with the intention of burning down the Confederate Prison. The weathervane atop the courthouse served as a shooting target for the army and was later removed to a tinshop in the March House for repair; a fire subsequently destroyed both the weathervane and the house.
