Description

Two back-to-back Caribbean hurricanes drenched North Carolina with record rainfalls. The swollen Yadkin River washed two feet over the new Hall's Ferry bridge. As the rising waters attracted many onlookers, Sheriff Flynt of Forsyth County roped off the bridge at the Forsyth end to prevent traffic from crossing -- a few minutes before one of the sections gave way.
