In 1902 Philip Hanes, co-owner of B.F. Hanes Tobacco Company, and his wife Sallie Clement Booe built this house on property inherited from Sallie's father, Alexander Booe. The house, built on the outskirts of Mocksville at that time, still stands at the corner of North Main Street and Milling Road. Shortly after completion of the construction, Philip died from injuries sustained in an accident. His widow continued living in the home until her death in late 1927.
