Southern Bank & Trust operated in the large building on the northeast corner of the square during the 1920s. The Central Telephone exchange occupied the second floor for many years. Dr. W. M. Long had his medical office on the first floor and Peter Hairston had his law office here as well. Note the parking sign for Jo Cooley, manager of the Mayfair Beauty Shop.
