Watercolor banner design promoting the candidacy
of David Settle Reid (1813-1891) for Governor. Reid was the 32nd
Governor of North Carolina from 1851-1854. The banner is 3" x 4" and
hand painted on paper. It depicts an eagle with a shield bearing the
stars and stripes and the date 1776. The eagle holds a ribbon
reading "D. S. Reid for Governor." Additional ribbons read "Free
Suffrage" and "Victory." Handwritten on the reverse is "by A. C.
Sandford."
