Transcription: Col. John A. Liske, who fought with Lee and Jackson, was born just a few miles from Mt. Gilead. He was raised on his fathers plantation. He won fame for himself at the battle of Yellow Tavern. When Capt. Gaines was shot and killed over Yankee lines after dark, he went back and got his body and brought it through the Yankee lines.
