A. J. Ellington was a prominent Rockingham County citizen who served as Captain in the Reidsville Light Infantry and the North Carolina State Guard, Co. D. His company did duty in Cuba in1899 during the Spanish American War. He was also a tobacco auctioneer in Rockingham County and at Cabell's Warehouse in Danville, VA.
