Transcription: CLOSE TO 50 YEARS AGO this is the way Boone's central business district appeared. In the foreground are the old Greer log house, occupied by the A. W. Beach family at the time and the railroad Y, a box car and lumber hacks. Left center the Bryan barn and behind the old Democrat office where the present structure is located. The bank building, Critcher Hotel, Boone Drug Co. building and the old drug store facing depot St. may be seen. To the left of the old drug store is the Councill blacksmith shop in what is now North Depot St. At the extreme right center is the W. B. Councill home place.
