Transcription: October 1923 in Boone. Boone was sure enough train town, the train carrying freight and passengers until the 1940 Flood washed away the tracks. The rails originally were extended into this region by lumber barons intent upon clear-cutting its massive forests. From left: C.B. Angel, conductor, Boone; Paul Fletcher, brakeman, Newland-Avery; Ted Blalock, brakeman, Newland-Avery; Brownie Allison, engineer, Johnson City, Tn.; and Mox Daniels, later killed while serving as a deputy sheriff in Avery County.
