In 1817 efforts were undertaken to make the Yadkin River navigable from Wilkesboro, NC to Georgetown, SC. This canal wall in Yadkin County shows one attempt to bypass some rocky shoals in the river. The wall stands 16 feet high and 1/4 mile long. The navigation project failed.
